Energy use continues to increase, energy prices continue to rise, and energy infrastructure continues to age. At the same time, pollutant emissions, including greenhouse gases, continue to degrade the atmosphere, threatening more severe changes in climate.
To combat this, we need to reduce our demand for energy. Governor Eliot Spitzer has launched the “15 by 15” Initiative that will reduce New York ’s electricity consumption by 15% below the forecasted level in 2015. This is the most aggressive target in the nation and action on the part of all New Yorkers will be necessary to reach this goal. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is sponsoring the “15 by 15” Energy Education Grant Program for K-12 teachers to focus on educating students, their families, and the community on the need to reduce electricity consumption by 15%.
All applications must be received by December 28, 2007.
