Mini hydrogen cars--Some toys, some equipped for learning

I was thinking of buying one of those smart-looking, blue, H2andO2-powered roadsters, then two things stopped me:
1) It cost $100
2) I read the reviews on a reseller's web site, particularly "...It doesn't have very much scientific or educational information in the book. It's basically one activity and then you are done." After reading the Lab manual that comes with the Thames and Cosmos, I was impressed at how much could be done with their equipment, for about $40 more.
How has your experience been teaching with these hydrogen cars; shallow, short, long, meaningful, open, closed, inquiry-based, boring?
