Fighting spammers

I'm terribly sorry about the offensive spam that occurred early July. I have changed the privileges of anonymous users, so that they can't post messages or reply to ours. I have also banned the internet IP addresses of those spammers, which will prevent them even from reading any of the forums. Of course, as more computers out there catch viruses, there will be new threats. So, I will continue to watch over the forums.

With a new system to thwart spammers, I have decided to open the "Open Forum" today, allowing anonymous users to post there only.

If you find you cannot post a message or sign in, your IP address might be listed as a 'bot' in our server. Please use the contact form at EnergyTeachers.org and we will lift the embargo on your address.
Explanation
There are thousands of servers that have been infiltrated by black market organizations, with the purpose of filling forums like this with messages and links about popular or illicit products. To raise their status in search engines, they want to have their link seen by Google and Yahoo and Microsoft in as many forums as possible.
Whenever we're attacked by such a bot, we note the address and ban its associated range, often a set of addresses assigned to a company that hosts servers for other web sites.
Internet addresses can change, because the space is leased for temporary periods. It is possible that an address once used for servers can become one for residences or schools.
