Solar Sense

Are you a teacher, museum or nature center staff, youth group leader or home school parent living or working in a town served by Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo)? Interested in learning the basics in solar energy including how a photovoltaic solar panel works and have an opportunity to sample a variety of educational activities to offer your students about aspects of solar energy? Then register for this free educator workshop!

NESEA, in collaboration with the Center for Ecological Technology is offering Solar Sense Educator Workshop on Tuesday, April 12th, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Hancock Shaker Village in Hancock, MA.

Through the Clean Energy for a Clean Environment program (CECE) educators and youth gain an introduction to renewable energy choices and energy efficiency, and are empowered to take action toward sustainable living practices through community-based projects. Students can earn the "Clean Green Champion" patch for learning about renewable energy and carrying out activities that make a difference. Newly added to CECE, "Solar Sense" which is appropriate for 3rd-12th grade students, is a targeted suite of lessons to become familiar with solar energy science and technologies.

At the workshop participants will receive:

* An overview of CECE and how to facilitate it;
* Hands-on learning experiences with a focus on solar energy lessons, including "Solar Sense" lessons and accompanying FREE mini-solar education kit;
* Two educator guides (while supplies last): Clean Green Power and Wind Wisdom, including Massachusetts State Frameworks in Science and Technology/Engineering you can cover through these programs.

This workshop is free and registration is required. To register please email your contact information to CET Education Coordinator, Cynthia Grippaldi at cynthiag@cetonline.org
