Sustainable Energy—Ohio State U and Amer Elec Power
This 2.5-day workshop will consist of five modules, each with a lecture followed by hands-on activities or tours. Modules include: Basics of Electric Power including safety, power system structure, generation, transmission and distribution plus lab demonstrations; Basics of Smart Grid including the smart grid concept, related technologies plus lab demo at OSU and field trip to AEP smartGRID facilities; Power from the Sun focusing on photovoltaic-related technologies and a tour of Nanotech, OSU\'s Ohio Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization; Smart Lighting featuring lighting concepts for energy conservation and a tour and demonstration of the OSU smart lighting lab; and Future Power Grid highlighting future power grid concepts such as the zero-emission home and the DC network with a tour of the AEP Dolan Technology Center labs.
Each teacher who completes the workshop will receive a set of four LEGO Power House kits for the classroom and certification of attendance.
Classroom sessions will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 20 and 21, and 8:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, June 22.
$10. Lunch will be provided.
Held at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio as well as field trips to AEP smartGRID facilities and AEP Dolan Technology Center in central Ohio.
