NEED Rhode Island Energy Workshop for Teachers
The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources and the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project are excited to announce the upcoming Rhode Island Energy Workshop to be held at Hope High School in Providence, Rhode Island on November 12, 2009. Classroom teachers (K-12) will have a unique opportunity to learn energy in a fun and exciting way! The workshop will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009.
Thanks to Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources sponsorship there is no cost to attend the workshop. Breakfast and lunch are provided! Substitute reimbursement forms will be provided at the workshop and substitute costs will be reimbursed to school districts.
The NEED Project’s mission is to promote an energy conscious and educated society. NEED is the nation’s leading provider of energy education programs and materials to schools. All NEED learning activities are correlated to Rhode Island science objectives and many others. The program will make teaching energy exciting and fun as you return to your classroom. Participation in this workshop provides educators with free use of the NEED Science of Energy Kit that teaches the concepts of force, motion, light, sound, heat, electricity, magnetism, and energy transformations through hands-on activities. Additional curriculum materials to teach about energy and energy resources – including electricity and energy efficiency will be provided.
The NEED program includes teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy – their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society.
