NRES 732 - Doable Renewables: Renewable Energy Education in the Classroom offers the next step in renewable energy hands-on activities, class discussions, and classroom-based applications to help teachers analyze energy information and create strategies and techniques to enhance their students' understanding of renewable energy. The course will highlight a renewable energy curriculum designed for teachers to use in their classrooms. Recommended for teachers of grades 5-12, adaptable to younger grades.
Course Goals:
As a result of participating in NRES 732, students will:
Have developed an appreciation that renewable energy technology works and is currently being used in Wisconsin and around the world;
Gain knowledge about and hands-on experiences in renewable energy education;
Develop strategies for using the renewable energy supplement and resources to integrate renewable energy concepts into their curriculum; and
Learn about and appreciate the economic, environmental, and socio-political benefits of using renewable energy.
Cost:
Select Wisconsin utilities provide $350-$400 scholarships, and participants pay a co-pay. The In-service includes one graduate credit from UWSP and all materials to participants who are practicing K-12 teachers from Wisconsin schools in their territories.
Expectations:
Participants are responsible for paying the co-pay, attending the course, peer teaching from the KEEP Renewable Energy Supplement during the course, and completing a class assignment to be turned in by an arranged date after the course.
