Learn about Green Dollhouse Challenge

SewGreen is hosting a workshop for a unique and creative activity: Design a dollhouse that both involves sustainability and is fun to play with. Sponsored by EnergyTeachers.org, the New York Green Dollhouse Challenge invites individuals and groups of all ages to design and build play structures that represent houses, parks, playgrounds, filling-stations, restaurants, villages, candy stores—you name it—that involve sustainability in design, structure, and play. Join Shawn Reeves for an introduction to the challenge, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Friday, March 21, at the SewGreen youth studio. Participants can get ideas and select from an array of potential materials. Anyone needing work space can sign up for Friday night play/work sessions at SewGreen. You can learn more about the Green Dollhouse Challenge at its web page: http://energyteachers.org/greendollhousechallenge.php

SewGreen operates a reuse/resale store that diverts about 20 tons of materials from the landfill annually. Most of the store’s stock is donated by community members looking for an environmentally sound way to dispose of unwanted fabric, yarn, needlecraft supplies, and sewing machines. SewGreen resells the best-quality donations in its retail store, or uses the materials in sewing classes and for charity sewing projects. Resale proceeds help to support a youth apprenticeship and teen jobs program.

SewGreen is located at 112 N Cayuga Street, in downtown Ithaca opposite the west end of the Ithaca Commons.
