This consortium led by folks from U. Maine Orono studies far-off-shore wind power possibilities. They hold an annual competition for teams from Maine schools, called Windstorm Challenge, and they list internships and study opportunities in wind power.

Efficiency Maine is funded by electricity consumers and administered by the Maine Public Utilities Commission (Commission). The Windstorm Challenge is an annual competition each spring in Maine since 2009, sponsored by the DeepCWind Consortium, a group of institutions researching far-offshore wind power. Secondary-school age students build model-sized floating platforms for wind turbines and compete in a wave-pool for stability.
