ENERGY STAR® Enables Bulk Purchasing
January 2007
Do you want to buy ENERGY STAR-qualified products in bulk at competitive prices? If so, check out the ENERGY STAR Bulk Purchasing Tool, a Web-based tool created by the U.S. Department of Energy that connects buyers with suppliers:
http://www.bulkpurchase.net/

With this fast and simple tool, large quantity buyers can:
Submit purchase requests for ENERGY STAR-qualified products
Receive quotes from suppliers
Make contact with suppliers
Negotiate discounted prices.
The program began in 2006 as a pilot. By January 2007, more than 85 suppliers of ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances, light bulbs, and light fixtures had signed up to offer quotes in response to customer requests. More than 175 organizations looking to buy ENERGY STAR products in bulk quantities had also registered on the Web site.

Although anyone can use it, the ENERGY STAR Bulk Purchasing Tool will be particularly useful for organizations such as facilities managers, schools, public housing agencies, builders, and weatherization service providers that purchase light bulbs, light fixtures, or other ENERGY STAR-qualified products in bulk quantities. The tool will also be useful for state agencies that want to continue participation in the ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World Campaign or similar change-outs throughout the year. For background on this campaign, see an article in the November–December edition of the State Energy Program newsletter, Conservation Update titled "States Accelerate Change a Light:"
