The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the Buffalo News have joined forces to offer a unique, free-of-charge program to Buffalo area middle school/high school classrooms through Newspapers in Education (NIE). NIE provides newspaper-oriented resources for schools. Participating teachers will receive a class set of newspapers over a five-day period. Using the newspapers and the "Get Energy Smart" supplement, students will complete research and writing activities designed to provide them with information on energy efficiency and energy policy.
On February 25, from 4 pm to 6 pm, NYSERDA will offer a two-hour informational, free workshop to provide further information on the NIE program. Workshop space is limited. To sign up for the February 25 event, please call (716) 849-6143 or email your name, school, and phone number to the address above no later than February 20.
To order the "Get Energy Smart" supplement and a class set of newspapers, email the address above or write to NIE c/o The Buffalo News, One News Plaza, PO Box 100, Buffalo, NY 14240.
