Did you know that the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation manages four summer environmental camps for young people? From western New York to the Catskills and the Adirondacks, summer camp opportunities are available for youth ages 12 to 17.
This year, for the first time, the Energy Smart Students Program will be working with environmental educators to pilot energy lessons at the summer program at Pack Forest in the Adirondacks. Pack Forest runs a weekly residential camp program for youth ages 12-14 and 15-17. In addition to energy lessons, students will sample streams for aquatic life, net butterflies, study birds, and participate in a host of environmental and recreational activities.
Camp costs are $325/camper per week. Information for sponsorships is available through DEC.
For more information or to register for camp, visit http://www.dec.ny.gov/education/29.html or e-mail edcamps@gw.dec.state.ny.us.
Flyers will be available in our NYSERDA offices around the state.
